Considering Adoption?
Adoption is an option worth understanding fully before setting it aside. The process today looks very different from what most people imagine, and expectant mothers have far more choice and control than they often realize.
Choosing adoption is not giving up. It is making a loving plan for your child’s future, one that you shape.
At Coast Pregnancy Clinic, we offer no-cost, confidential appointments where you can ask questions, get information, and explore what adoption could look like for you. You do not have to be leaning toward it to ask about it.
You Are in Control
As an expectant mother, the adoption plan belongs to you. You choose the family. You decide how much or how little contact you want after placement. You can change your mind at any point before the legal process is finalized.
Adoption fully transfers parental rights to the adoptive family, distinguishing it from co-parenting. But within that framework, you have a great deal of say in how the process unfolds and what your relationship with your child looks like in the future.
Types of Adoption Plans
Open adoption allows you to select the adoptive family and maintain ongoing contact through visits, calls, letters, or photos, with mutual agreement.
Semi-open adoption provides updates and some communication through an agency or attorney, without a direct exchange of personal contact information.
Closed adoption involves no ongoing contact after placement, with identifying information kept private. Less common today, but available for those who prefer complete anonymity.
You can review adoptive family profiles before making any decision. Reputable agencies provide support throughout your pregnancy, and after placement, and in most cases, adoption-related medical and legal expenses are covered.
