There Is More to Know Than What a Test Can Tell You
A positive pregnancy test is significant, but it is only one piece of information. It cannot tell you whether the pregnancy is developing as expected, how many weeks along you are, or whether it is located where it should be.
Coast Pregnancy Clinic provides no-cost limited OB ultrasounds to patients who have received a positive pregnancy test at our clinic. Ultrasounds are performed by licensed medical staff in a confidential clinical setting and require a scheduled appointment.
What the Ultrasound Checks
Viability
An ultrasound can confirm whether the pregnancy is developing as expected. Miscarriage occurs in as many as 26% of known pregnancies, often without clear symptoms.
If a miscarriage has already taken place, additional medical attention may be needed.
Gestational age
How far along you are shapes the options available to you. This is especially relevant if you are considering the abortion pill, which is FDA-approved only through 10 weeks of pregnancy.
Gestational age can only be accurately determined through ultrasound.
Location
Occasionally, a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most often in a fallopian tube, a condition called an ectopic pregnancy.
An ectopic pregnancy cannot develop normally and requires prompt medical treatment. Because symptoms are not always present, ultrasound is the only reliable way to rule this out.
What to Expect
Your appointment will be handled with care and confidentiality. Our registered nurse will walk you through the scan and review the findings with you. If follow-up care or referrals are needed, our team will help you get connected with the right providers.
Patients must first receive a positive pregnancy test at our clinic to be eligible for a limited OB ultrasound.
